I reluctantly had to shut my shop Sew in Rathmines last year but now I am so pleased to welcome old customers back and new customers to Sew Dublin. While the actual world of my fabric and haberdashery shop is replaced by the virtual one it does offer the opportunity to continue although without the chats, sharing and the privilege of seeing so many wonderful stitch and quilting projects that were brought to my counter at Sew.
I love being part of the sewing community. Those of you I have met and chatted with know of my interest in sewing and textile crafts and that I am constantly trying out new techniques as my pile of UFO’s steadily grows! My particular interest is in the legacy of stitch, quilts made for and handed down to loved ones, embroideries, garments and many items that connect people to their families and friends.
While both practical and fun, sewing and making are ancient traditions passed on through generations primarily through necessity but also as an exploration of creativity. I love seeing old traditions kept but also modern applications of the old techniques. Making textile craft is a wonderful stress-buster and I cannot but recommend getting immersed in a new project. I hope my range of fabrics and products will inspire many new textile creations. Happy sewing!
